Reality television star Josephina “Phyna” Otabor defeated actress Nkechi Blessing in Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout on Thursday.
Phyna won N50m at the event tagged ‘Chaos in the Ring’ in Lagos.
She stopped Nkechi Blessing in their scheduled four-round contest at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, to claim the victory.
The former Big Brother Naija winner remained composed throughout the bout before securing the win.
After the fight, Phyna challenged Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, who watched the bout from ringside, to another celebrity boxing contest.
“I came in, and I kept my cool and did the thing. Now I would like to fight Etinosa. I think it is time I teach her a lesson,” Phyna said.
Etinosa accepted the challenge, saying: “I have been advising you to carry the Edo name with pride. We do not run from any fight. I accept the challenge fully.”
Phyna also said the victory could mark the beginning of a professional boxing career.
In another celebrity bout, skit maker Carter Efe defeated musician Speed Darlington by technical knockout.
Efe dominated the scheduled four-round contest before the referee stopped the fight after Speed Darlington stopped moving.
The win came five months after Efe defeated singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, on May 1.
All three judges scored the three-round contest 30-27 in Efe’s favour.
The rivalry between Efe and Speed Darlington intensified before Thursday’s fight. Both entertainers had traded hostile remarks in the build-up to the contest.
The main event featured professional boxers, with Ghana’s Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeating Nigerian champion Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision.
Gyimah won the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship after the judges awarded him the decision over Appah.
