The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has dismissed the claim by the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, that his party will produce the next governor of Plateau State in the 2027 general election.
Yilwatda, who recently emerged as the national chairman of the party at its National Executive Committee meeting held on July 24, 2025, had boasted during a radio programme in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday that the APC would reclaim its leadership of the state in 2027, having lost it in 2023.
Recall that Yilwatda was the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, which he lost to the incumbent and PDP candidate, Caleb Mutfwang.
Replying on Wednesday, the PDP, in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, described Yilwatda’s remark as “absurdity.”
Amande noted that producing the next governor of Plateau State required more than mere ambition or rhetoric, adding that the PDP had demonstrated resilience, capacity, and a commitment to serving the people.
“The Peoples Democratic Party finds it interesting to note the recent remarks made by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, a proud son of Plateau State, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, at Jay FM yesterday, boasting about installing an APC governor in Plateau State in the 2027 general election. This is an absurdity.
“While the PDP acknowledges the fact that he is at liberty to dream dreams and hold his opinion, it is worth reminding the professor that producing the next governor of our dear state requires far more than mere ambition or rhetoric.
“The PDP has, over the years, demonstrated resilience, capacity, and commitment to the service of the people.
“With solid structures across all wards of the local government areas, as well as a proven record of governance by the people’s governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the PDP remains the most formidable platform upon which to build our future,” the statement said.
The PDP expressed confidence in its ability to earn the people’s trust again in the 2027 general election.
Amande said the party would continue to engage the electorate constructively, guided by the principles of fairness, accountability, and service delivery.
“As we look ahead to the 2027 general election, the PDP’s focus remains on strengthening its unity, consolidating democratic gains, and working closely with the people to ensure more progress and development in the state,” Amande said.
The party called on its members, supporters, and citizens of Plateau State to remain steadfast, as it is fully prepared to earn the people’s trust at the polls come 2027.
