The Anambra State Chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has engaged the Anambra State Government ahead of a planned statewide advocacy and sensitisation campaign aimed at tackling cultism and other social vices.
The courtesy visit, which took place on Friday at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), was part of preparations for the visit of the National Coordinator of POCACOV and the commencement of the awareness campaign across the state.
The delegation was led by the State Coordinator of POCACOV, HRM Igwe Daniel Obelle of Nawfia, represented by Mr. Moses Ndukwu.
During the meeting, the team briefed the state government on the objectives of the campaign and sought its partnership in promoting values that discourage cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, violence, and other social vices, particularly among young people.
According to the delegation, the campaign will feature sensitisation programmes in schools, communities, religious institutions, and other public platforms to encourage responsible citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and positive youth development.
The team stressed that addressing rising social challenges requires sustained public enlightenment, community participation, and collaboration among stakeholders.
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, commended the Nigeria Police Force and POCACOV for the initiative, describing it as a proactive step toward promoting peace and security in Anambra State.
She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting programmes that enhance public safety and improve the welfare of residents, while urging continued collaboration among relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign.
The Anambra State Police Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed appreciation to the state government for its support and reiterated its commitment to using non-kinetic approaches, strategic partnerships, and community engagement to prevent crime and build a safer Anambra.
