A 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly killing a community leader in Bauchi metropolis. Police also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the attack.
The victim, 55-year-old Jacob Bature, was the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas in the Inkil area of Bauchi Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar Habib, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, July 20, 2026. He said officers recovered a locally made single-barrel gun and one expended cartridge from the suspect.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening, July 19, when the suspect allegedly armed himself with the locally made firearm and shot the community leader.
Bature sustained severe gunshot wounds to his right rib area and collapsed at the scene. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Akelicious gathered from members of the community that the shooting occurred shortly after a heated argument between the suspect and the deceased at a beer parlour.
Police said investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in custody.
