The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with separate cases involving alleged sexual assault of minors and attempted shop-breaking in parts of the state.
The suspects were arrested during separate operations by detectives from Azare Division and a patrol team in Bununu.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said a 20-year-old man, Gidado Adamu, was arrested on September 14, 2026, over the alleged attempted sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Chokle Quarters, Azare.
According to Habib, the suspect allegedly lured the girl into a farm where he attempted to sexually assault her.
“The girl raised an alarm, which forced the suspect to flee. Our detectives later arrested him, while the victim was taken to General Hospital Azare for medical attention,” he said.
In another case, police arrested 20-year-old Abba Umaru over the alleged attempted rape of a 10-year-old girl at Samamuro Village in Katagum Local Government Area.
The PPRO said the incident occurred on September 6, when the suspect allegedly took the girl into a farm and attempted to defile her.
The girl’s screams reportedly scared the suspect away, after which her family reported the matter to the police.
“The suspect allegedly lured the two seven-year-old girls into an uncompleted building on September 14, where he sexually assaulted them before fleeing. The victims were later taken to General Hospital Azare for medical attention,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Bununu, police operatives working with members of a local vigilance group known as Yan Committee arrested 21-year-old Umar Ladan over an alleged attempt to break into shops.
According to the police, Ladan was seen wearing a hijab while allegedly attempting to break into shops in the area.
The police said the suspect could not give a satisfactory explanation when he was stopped and was subsequently arrested.
The four cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers and members of the vigilance group involved in the arrests.
