Police Arrest Man With Fake Presidency Number Plate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man accused of impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation after intercepting a Lexus LX570 SUV bearing a concealed “Presidency” number plate in Abuja.

The suspect was arrested at about 8pm on October 20, 2026, in Maitama District, following the interception of the luxury vehicle by police operatives.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate carried the inscription “Presidency” and registration number 10B218 FG.

The Command said further investigations, prompted by the suspect’s claim that he was the legitimate holder of the number plate, allegedly uncovered forged registration documents.

Police also alleged that the suspect was impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The arrest raises questions about the alleged use of forged government identification and official-looking vehicle number plates to assume the identity or authority of senior public officials.

However, the police have not disclosed the suspect’s identity or provided further details about where the number plate and accompanying documents were allegedly obtained.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon their conclusion.

The Command urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police operations and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
