The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Gospel Ozioma Nneto, a 31-year-old suspected terrorist and key figure in the multimedia operations of a proscribed armed separatist group, following a series of coordinated raids across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad apprehended the suspect in the early hours of the day.
According to Ikenga, Nneto is a notorious member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He is also alleged to have played multiple roles as a kidnapper, armed robber, and the official photographer for the separatist group, with operations centred in a camp known as “Mother Valley” located in the Orsumogho–Orsu axis.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the official multimedia operative of the group and has been providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations,” the police spokesperson said.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation, Divisional Police Officers from the Nimo and Nteje divisions, working in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, rescued three kidnapped victims from suspected armed hoodlums. Recovered during the operation were a pump-action gun and a dagger.
The police have assured residents of their commitment to stamping out all forms of criminality in the state. “The Command remains resolute in its mission to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors to Anambra State,” SP Ikenga added.
Nneto is currently undergoing further interrogation as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle his network and other operational cells of the proscribed group.
