The police in Osun State have arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction of a Fulani herdsman, Yahaya Sulaiman, in Ijebu Jesa.
Sulaiman, who was kidnapped earlier in the week, has reportedly regained his freedom after the payment of an undisclosed ransom.
DAILY POST gathered from sources that the herdsman was abducted by gunmen who had initially demanded N70 million for his release.
Confirming the development, the Osun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the victim had been rescued and a suspect was in custody.
“Sulaiman was rescued by the police, and a suspect arrested in connection with the incident is currently with us,” Ojelabi stated.
A security source disclosed that Sulaiman was released on Thursday after a substantial ransom had been paid.
“He was released on Thursday. They collected a huge amount of money before letting him go,” the source said.
The source revealed that one of the suspects involved in the abduction had been apprehended by security operatives.
“One of the perpetrators has been arrested. Firearms and ammunition were recovered from him, and he has been taken to Osogbo,” the source added.
