The Jigawa State Police Command says it has arrested seven suspected members of a cattle-rustling syndicate operating across Garki, Jahun and Miga Local Government Areas of the state.
The suspects were arrested during routine patrol operations following actionable intelligence and information provided by members of the public.
Police said two vehicles allegedly used by the syndicate were intercepted during the operation, while eight cows suspected to have been rustled were recovered.
The suspects were identified as Sulaiman Tijjani, 20; Abdullahi Musa, 40; Bala Muhammad, 30; Isah Adamu, 27; Yusuf Sa’idu, 32; Mansur Usaini, 29; and Kaku Abubakar, 27.
The recovered vehicles were a dark blue Golf with registration number WRA 158 FU and an ash-coloured Golf 3 wagon with registration number ABJ 493 HN, Abuja.
“The arrests and recoveries followed sustained intelligence gathering, community engagement, and intensified patrols in identified flashpoints and vulnerable areas,” the police said.
The Command said the suspects were currently in custody and assisting investigators with information about their activities, while efforts were ongoing to identify other alleged members of the syndicate and recover additional livestock.
Commissioner of Police Tijjani Murtala commended the officers involved and appreciated members of the public whose information contributed to the operation.
“The timely information assisted the Command in apprehending the suspects and recovering the cows,” the Command quoted the commissioner as saying.
