The Abia State Police Command has claimed 18-year-old kidnap victim, Ifeoma Obinna has been rescued while three suspects were arrested after the family was reportedly asked to pay N5 million to secure her release.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a release issued on Thursday.
The police stated that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit received a distress call on October 4, 2026, after an unknown caller contacted Mrs. Obinna demanding N5 million before her missing daughter could be seen.
Following actionable intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested the suspects in Umuimo Community, Osisioma Ngwa, Abia State.
The suspects were identified as Chidozie Hezekiah, a 65-year-old man; Brave Rainbow, 21; and Innocent Otodirichu, 21.
The police claimed the victim was rescued during the operation, while two daggers and her phone were recovered.
The Command added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Wilfred Afolabi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to use actionable intelligence, community partnerships and other operational strategies to ensure their safety and security.
Afolabi also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to the police by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting the Command through its dedicated hotlines.
