The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, has ordered the deployment of officers and intelligence assets to all approved Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, across the state.
The directive, according to the command, is intended to guarantee a secure and orderly atmosphere for candidates, examination officials, and other stakeholders throughout the exercise.
In a statement shared on Thursday via X by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the move was said to be in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
She noted that officers assigned to the exercise have been instructed to maintain a high level of professionalism, vigilance, and civility while carrying out their duties.
“They are expected to act decisively against any form of examination malpractice, disorderly behaviour, or security breach,” the statement said.
The command also emphasised that personnel would collaborate closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective monitoring of examination centres, surrounding areas, and access routes.
The Commissioner further called on candidates, parents, and guardians to cooperate with security operatives and adhere strictly to examination guidelines to ensure a smooth process.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The 2026 UTME commenced nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to sit for the examination.
