The Osun State Police Command has arrested and detained the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, alongside five others following a raid on his residence in Osogbo.
The command said one of those arrested, Oladele Abiodun, was on its watchlist over alleged criminal offences.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the police said the operation was carried out following intelligence that members of a criminal gang were hiding at the location.
According to the statement, officers recovered N4.81m, two Permanent Voter Cards, a voter register covering Wards 1 to 15, a Dynabook laptop, a photocopier and a printer from the residence.
Others arrested during the operation were identified as Akande Taiwo, Adeyemo Lukman, Olaoye Muftau and Aderemi Musliu.
The police said the recovered cash and voter register raised concerns over possible electoral offences, including vote-buying, criminal conspiracy and harbouring a wanted suspect.
The command added that investigations were ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the recovered funds, identify all persons connected with the exhibits and establish the full extent of any criminal activity.
It stressed that no individual, regardless of political office or status, was above the law and assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.
However, the Osun State Government accused the police of invading the residence of the Secretary to the State Government without a search warrant.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, alleged that a combined team of police officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations forced their way into the residence and arrested those present.
The state government condemned the operation, insisting it was carried out without due process.
