The Imo State Police Command has presented cheques worth N26.4m to families of 52 police officers who died while serving the country.
The cheques, valued at N26,428,898, were presented on Friday by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu Rilwan.
The presentation took place at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Owerri under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance and Group Personnel Accident Scheme.
The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to families of police personnel who die in the line of duty.
While presenting the cheques, Bosso commiserated with the beneficiaries and acknowledged the sacrifices made by their deceased relatives in the service of the country.
He assured the families that the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to improving the welfare of serving personnel and supporting their dependants.
Among the beneficiaries were Mrs Okorie Felista, Mrs Gift Chidera Omini, Mrs Nwosu Stella Chidinma, Mrs Nkeiruka Okparada, Mrs Florence Offoegbu and Mrs Onyekwere Edith Ogochukwu.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Stella Nwosu Chidinma thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Imo State Commissioner of Police for the financial assistance.
She said the payment would provide meaningful support to families who had lost their loved ones in active service.
The Imo Police Command said the initiative demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to honouring officers who died while serving the nation and supporting their families after their deaths.
