The Kano State Police Command has intercepted a stolen vehicle at Takai Local Government Area and arrested a suspect in a swift intelligence-led operation.
The incident was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Friday.
According to the statement, the Command received a distress call on May 12, 2026, at about 4:54pm through its emergency line, reporting that a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC 928 LK was stolen in Kaduna State and was heading towards Kano.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, police operatives were immediately mobilised to border communities to block the suspected movement of the vehicle.
The statement said the Divisional Police Officer in Takai set up a roadblock where the vehicle was eventually intercepted and the suspect arrested.
“The suspect, Christian Ikwumesi ‘m’, 38 years old, of Benin, Edo State, was arrested on the spot and the vehicle recovered,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigation reportedly confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from Kaduna State. The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kano for further investigation.
The recovered vehicle has been handed over to its rightful owner, who commended the police for their quick response and recovery effort.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting cross-border crime.
He said, “We will continue to respond swiftly to distress calls and ensure criminals have no safe haven in Kano State.”
The Command also urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious movements through its emergency lines.
