Police re-activate operation sweep FCT to tackle security threats

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has reactivated a joint security operation known as “Operation Sweep FCT” in collaboration with other security agencies operating within the territory.

The command said the operation was reactivated by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, with support from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The operation was formally launched on Friday May 15, 2026 at the Eagles Square in Abuja.

According to the command, the operation is aimed at strengthening visibility policing, deterring criminal activities and improving coordinated responses to security threats across the FCT. 

Personnel involved in the operation were drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, Department of State Services DSS, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Federal Fire Service and other security agencies.

The police further stated that the operation has been divided into sectors to improve coordination, rapid response and security presence across the territory.

“The Command reaffirms its commitment to the protection of lives and property,” the statement read.
