The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
He gave the assurance on Thursday during a high-level peace and security meeting convened to address rising tensions in Takum and Donga local government areas.
The meeting brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of the Tiv People’s Association, officials of Tabital Pulaku International, the Tiv Cultural and Social Association, and the Miyetti Allah group, as well as heads of security agencies operating in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner stated that the police would continue to safeguard lives and property while taking decisive action against all forms of criminality. He added that ensuring the safety of residents remains a top priority for the command.
He also reiterated the police command’s resolve to work closely with relevant stakeholders to sustain peace and stability across Taraba State.
Delivering the keynote address, Chairman of the Reconciliation and Peace Dialogue Committee, Mallam Isa Yuguda, stressed the importance of sustained dialogue, mutual understanding, and shared responsibility in addressing security challenges and fostering lasting peace in affected communities.
Participants at the meeting expressed concern over the security situation and unanimously called for calm, peaceful coexistence, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
They also agreed to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and promote continuous community engagement.
Residents of Takum and Donga were urged to remain law-abiding, support security agencies, and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions in the area.
