Police Recover Stolen N8m Car, Arrest Mechanic

The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Kia Optima valued at N8m and arrested a 24-year-old mechanic allegedly found in possession of the vehicle.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the vehicle was stolen on October 4, 2026, after the owner’s wife parked it in front of Ziha Health Care, Karkasara Quarters, in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

The black 2014 model Kia Optima was reportedly valued at N8m.

The police said the owner, a resident of Sharada Phase II, reported the theft at about 7.20pm on the same day.

Following the complaint, operatives of the command’s Special Intervention Squad launched an intelligence-driven investigation under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The investigation led to the arrest of 24-year-old Mubarak Muktar, a resident of Hotoro Quarters in the Nassarawa Local Government Area, at Farm Centre Garage in Tarauni on October 18.

The statement said the suspect was the vehicle’s mechanic and was allegedly found in possession of the stolen car at his garage.

The police added that investigations were ongoing.

The recovered vehicle was subsequently handed over to its rightful owner after verification and confirmation of ownership.

The command said the owner expressed gratitude to the police for recovering the vehicle.

Bakori commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling crime through its ongoing Operation Kukan Kura.

The police commissioner also advised vehicle owners to entrust their cars to trusted and verified mechanics.

The command urged residents to secure their vehicles with additional devices, including pedal locks and tracking systems, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123811575 and 09029292926.
