The FCT Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zazzayanu Halilu after he was allegedly caught attacking a 12-year-old girl inside a parked car in Abuja.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on October 2 around Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
Adeh said police operatives on routine patrol noticed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen parked at the location with its windows wound up. The officers reportedly became suspicious after observing that the vehicle was shaking.
She said the officers approached the vehicle and opened it, where they allegedly found Halilu attacking the minor.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the girl was rescued and taken for medical attention.
Preliminary investigation reportedly showed that the suspect had allegedly lured and repeatedly subjected the girl to the same form of mistreatment in the vehicle on previous occasions. Police said he allegedly threatened to “deal with her” if she told anyone about the incidents.
Adeh also disclosed that a medical examination showed that the 12-year-old girl was about three months pr£gn@nt.
The child is currently receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody. The police said he will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The case has sparked outrage online, with Nigerians expressing shock over the alleged mistreatment of the child.
