The Kano State Police Command has invited politician Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over a viral video allegedly showing him displaying a firearm during a political gathering.
The command said its cyber patrol team spotted the video circulating on social media, in which Warkal was allegedly seen openly displaying what appeared to be a pump-action rifle.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the alleged conduct, if established, could contravene the Firearms Act and pose a threat to public peace.
He said the display of firearms in such circumstances could also create fear and intimidate members of the public.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed that Warkal be invited to the command headquarters in Bompai for questioning.
The police said Warkal was currently at the State Intelligence Department, where investigation into the matter was ongoing.
The command did not disclose whether the firearm allegedly seen in the video had been recovered or whether Warkal had explained the circumstances surrounding its possession or display.
Bakori warned that the command would not tolerate lawlessness, thuggery or the display of weapons capable of threatening public safety, regardless of the status of those involved.
The police also urged political actors, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other relevant laws.
The command said it would continue to monitor activities capable of threatening public order as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
