The event, which is the inaugural edition of the convention, is being held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, with the theme, “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose, and Grace.”
The convention was declared open by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, who was represented by Mrs. Lilian Oghogho Musa, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, members of the Force Management Team, past POWA National Presidents and the incumbent National President, Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu.
Also in attendance were the National President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Mernan Femi Oluyede; the National President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs. Aisha Is Abbas; and the National President of the Fire Officers’ Wives Association (FOWA), Mrs. Olufunke Olumode, alongside numerous members of POWA.
Speaking at the convention, the POWA National President, Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, described the gathering as “a gathering of women whose stories are rarely told, whose sacrifices are often unseen, yet whose strength quietly keeps the Nigeria Police Force standing.”

She added that the convention marks the climax of the association’s recent unannounced welfare outreach visits across the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at strengthening and empowering police officers’ wives in their barracks.
In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the foresight and dedication of the POWA leadership. He praised the recent welfare outreaches, noting that they reflect the finest values of empathy, kindness and selfless service.
The IGP emphasised the indispensable role officers’ wives play in supporting and shaping the men behind the uniform and urged them to continue upholding the ideals of integrity, discipline, humility and compassion, which remain the hallmark of the association.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel and their families, assuring members of continued support for sustainable initiatives that promote family welfare, education, healthcare, skills acquisition and socioeconomic empowerment.
