The reason behind the questioning of Peter Obi supporters, Peter Akah, popularly known as Peter for Nigeria, and Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has emerged.
Their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the two activists were invited by the EFCC over allegations of naira abuse.
According to the lawyer, the anti-graft agency had initially asked them to appear on July 6, 2026, through separate invitation letters dated June 24. However, the meeting was rescheduled to July 15 after their legal team informed the commission that the clients would not be available on the original date.
Effiong said he accompanied Peter Akah and Mama Pee to the EFCC headquarters on Wednesday, where they met with investigators and answered questions relating to the allegations.
He stated that after cooperating with the commission, both activists were released and left the EFCC headquarters. He added that they would return for further interactions with investigators as the probe continues.
Speaking on the allegations, the lawyer said his clients explained that the money seen in the material under investigation was not genuine naira notes.
“Our clients clarified that what was referenced were Props money for entertainment and not Naira notes,” Effiong said.
He also commended the conduct of the EFCC officials during the session, saying, “During the interrogation on Wednesday, which took considerable time, the Commission acted professionally.”
Effiong further assured the public that the two activists were safe and in good spirits despite concerns over their whereabouts.
“Our clients are in high spirits and they appreciate the concerns expressed by spirited Nigerians regarding their safety,” he said, adding, “We will provide more information about this matter in due course.”
