Rite Foods Donates 600 Recycled Protective Coveralls, Waste Management Tools to Ogun Sanitation Workers

Company advances zero-waste-to-landfill ambition, targets 2030 sustainability milestone

ABEOKUTA — Rite Foods Limited has donated 600 protective coveralls and other waste management equipment to workers of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), reinforcing its environmental sustainability drive and commitment to achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030.

The donation, made in commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2026, themed “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities,” is aimed at supporting sanitation workers who play critical roles in maintaining environmental cleanliness and protecting public health across Ogun State.

The items were formally presented to OGWAMA management on September 30, 2026, at the Authority’s headquarters in Abeokuta, with senior government and environmental officials in attendance.

Speaking during the presentation, Rite Foods’ Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Mr. Ekuma Eze, said the intervention was designed to recognise the contributions of waste management workers while providing them with protective materials and tools to improve their working conditions.

Eze described the donation as more than a corporate social responsibility initiative, noting that it reflects the company’s commitment to practical environmental interventions, waste recovery and the development of a circular economy.

He explained that approximately 30 per cent of the materials used in producing the donated coveralls came from recyclable waste generated through the company’s sausage and beverage packaging.

According to him, the initiative demonstrates how discarded materials can be recovered and converted into useful products rather than ending up in drainage channels or landfills.

The Rite Foods official also highlighted the company’s Riteonthebeach initiative, which focuses on waste collection and recycling across Lagos and shoreline communities.

He disclosed that the company was pursuing a 2030 target under which waste generated from its operations would be recovered and recycled into other useful products instead of being disposed of in landfills.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Hon. Farouk Akintunde Adeniyi, commended Rite Foods for the donation and its continued support for environmental sanitation in the state.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Environment, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, acknowledged the company’s contributions to strengthening the capacity of waste management workers and supporting the Authority’s operations.

She noted that the partnership had contributed to OGWAMA’s efforts to improve the effectiveness of its workforce.

Rite Foods also recalled its 2025 intervention, during which it donated school bags produced from recycled waste materials to pupils in Lagos and Ogun States as part of its Children’s Day activities.

The latest intervention comes after the company secured two honours at the 2026 EDGE Awards. Its Managing Director, Mr. Seleem Adegunwa, was named Outstanding FMCG Brand Entrepreneur of the Year, while Rite Foods received the Outstanding FMCG Corporate Brand of the Year award.

The company, which operates a manufacturing facility in Ogun State, has continued to expand its product portfolio with brands including Bigi Carbonated Soft Drinks, Bigi Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink, Fearless Energy Drink, Rite Spicy Beef Sausage, Bigi Beef Sausage, Bigi Flex Sausage and its recently introduced LIDA Malt.

The donation further places waste recovery, recycling and environmental protection at the centre of Rite Foods’ corporate sustainability agenda, while drawing attention to the importance of providing sanitation workers with the protective resources required to perform their duties.
