Family members, friends, colleagues and dignitaries gathered in Lagos on Friday for the funeral service of veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs.
The funeral mass was held at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase I, where Jacobs’ widow, actress Joke Silva, and their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs, attended the service.
Jacobs’ casket, adorned with flowers, was placed in front of the church as mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the actor, who died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
Among those at the service are Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Chief Mrs Oluremi Hamzat; former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and former Ekiti State First Lady, Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.
Entertainment figures and other guests also joined the family at the service, two days after colleagues and friends gathered at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, for a Night of Tributes in honour of Jacobs.
During Friday’s funeral, his son, Olugbenga Jacobs, presented his father’s biography, while entertainment entrepreneur Dare Art Alade performed his song, Pray for Me, which featured Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva.
Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, had a career spanning more than five decades in theatre, television and film. He became one of the most recognisable figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
A private burial is expected to follow the funeral service as the family concludes the final rites for the actor, who was also known as the “Lion of Lufodo.”
