According to AIG Akpanudom, the FCID Annex Lagos, under his watch, is committed to combating crime, protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, safeguarding legitimate businesses, and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are brought to justice in accordance with the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and States.
On assumption of duty on 30th March 2026, as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Simeon Akpanudom committedly swung into actions towards improving the investigative capacity of personnel through training, infrastructural upgrade, and robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders for enhanced service delivery and winning the hearts and minds of members of the public and eliciting their trust.
In the area of infrastructure upgrade, some legacy projects are ongoing. These include the construction of the sentry slab, photo stand, installation of a solar system to light the general area, the office’s signage, and renovation of the holding cells.
In the area of welfare, personnel are granted leave and permission to attend to pressing family needs. They are advised to undertake regular medical checks and fully utilize the Police Medical services at Falomo and the Clinic at the Annex.
In furtherance of the foregoing, in addition to in-house trainings through weekly leadership meetings with sectional heads, general lectures by AIG Simeon Akpanudom, and the Officer In Charge, Legal Directorate, on principles of investigation, respect for human rights, and ethical conduct, the Annex has trained 30 detectives on Crypto Tracing Analysis and Investigation, in collaboration with the United States, US, Diplomatic Security Services, Regional Security Office and Internal Revenue Service, through the US Consulate General, Lagos.
Six personnel have benefited from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund training on Enhancing Professional Capacity, Ethical Standard and Inter Agency Collaboration for Effective Operations, while sundry trainings have been scheduled by the IGP, in which personnel have been nominated.
To enhance robust collaboration with stakeholders, AIG Simeon Akpanudom has visited revered royal fathers, the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, and the Zonal Assistant Controller General of Corrections, Zone A.
AIG Simeon Akpanudom also met with the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command, and attended the Nigerian Army Women Command Quarterly Workshop at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration.
The Annex has further hosted His Excellency the Consul General of the Republic of Lebanon, Mansur Chaya; Dr. Martins Iluyomade, fsi, Director Investigation and Enforcement/Chairman Federal Task Force, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC; the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch; National Association of Nigerian Students, Southwest Chapter; National Association of Northern Nigerian Students; and various socio-cultural associations.
In the area of investigation, a total of 1,762 letters of complaint were received during the period under review.
According to the statement:
1. 18 were referred to the various State Commissioners of Police to treat
2. 19 were referred for comments by the various sectional heads
3. 1,725 were referred for investigation and report
4. 56 cases were concluded and processed in various courts, while outstanding cases are at various stages of investigation, legal vetting, and advice
The INTERPOL Unit rescued 45 persons from traffickers. Four human trafficking suspects were arrested, four were arrested on Watchlist/Red Notice, two were arrested outside the country and brought in-country, and three persons were repatriated.
Recent significant successes by the FCID Annex, Lagos were highlighted by AIG Simeon Akpanudom. These were cases involving vandalism of telecommunication infrastructure, unlawful possession of firearms, criminal counterfeiting of products, and obtaining money by false pretence.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to due process, professionalism, and protection of lives and property.
