Eight individuals accused of invading and burgling the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja have been remanded in prison by Magistrate’s Courts in Kuje and Karu.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, July 28, involved the unlawful carting away of administrative documents, payment vouchers, official stamps, bank books, and office equipment from the SDP headquarters by suspects allegedly linked to unnamed political interests.
In a statement issued by SDP National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the eight suspects — seven men and one woman — were arrested by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and initially detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The suspects were arraigned before magistrates in two separate sittings on Tuesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 31. Following the court proceedings, they were remanded in Keffi, Kuje, and Suleja correctional facilities pending further hearings.
The accused persons were identified as Mr. Ambo Ekpenyong, Humphrey Onwukaeze, Mr. Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Chief Solsuema Osaro, Mr. Nurudeen Bissallah, Dogara Abubakar, Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, and Judith Isreal Shuaibu.
“All eight invaders were detained in police custody and charged to court. The materials recovered from them were tendered in court by the police prosecution team,” Aiyenigba said.
He also alleged that former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, made unsuccessful attempts to secure the release of the suspects.
“They are currently in the three prisons awaiting their days in court for the hearing of the cases against them,” he added.
