The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects after intercepting a truck allegedly conveying weapons, military camouflage uniforms, and cartons of suspected hard drugs from Lagos to the South-East region of Nigeria.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the State Tactical Squad following credible intelligence on the movement of the suspicious cargo. The truck was intercepted along the Lekki-Epe corridor, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the items.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was transporting 47 sacks containing military camouflage uniforms and approximately 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
According to the police, the recovered items were concealed in bags and cartons allegedly destined for locations in the South-East. Authorities have yet to disclose the exact destination or the identities of the intended recipients as investigations continue.
The police commissioner described the seizure as a significant breakthrough in the command’s efforts to combat organized crime, illegal drug trafficking, and the unauthorized possession of military materials.
He noted that the misuse of military camouflage by criminal elements poses a serious security threat, as such uniforms are often used to impersonate security personnel and facilitate criminal activities.
The four suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with efforts to uncover the source of the weapons, military uniforms, and suspected narcotics, as well as identify other individuals connected to the operation.
