The incident, which reportedly happened on Tuesday evening, has left families in deep distress as they wait for any news about their loved ones.
According to reports gathered from the area, the victims were returning home after their daily charcoal processing work when they were suddenly ambushed by gunmen.
The attackers reportedly stopped their vehicle on the road, forced the occupants out, and took control of the situation in a terrifying moment that left the entire group helpless.
Initially, ten people were seized during the attack, but two were later released under unclear circumstances.
Those freed were later dropped in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area, where they were told to deliver a message back to their community.
A local youth leader, Shapi’i Sambo, confirmed the incident, saying the community is now in confusion and fear as efforts continue to locate the remaining victims.
The eight abducted persons have been identified as residents of the area who depend on daily work for survival, making the situation even more painful for their families.
One of the released victims, Mummuni Musa, gave a chilling account of what happened inside the kidnappers’ den.
He revealed that the armed men instructed them to return home with a direct message: the owner of the vehicle used during the trip should sell it and use the money to pay ransom for the eight abducted persons.
“The kidnappers told us to go home and tell the owner of the vehicle to sell it and pay the ransom for the eight persons,” he said.
The victims were reportedly taken into the Kukawa bush, a remote area known for criminal hideouts, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
Residents are now calling on security agencies to act fast before the situation gets worse, as fear continues to spread across nearby communities.
