The Nigerian Senate has reconstituted several of its standing committees, with key leadership changes announced on Tuesday by the Senate Selection Committee, chaired by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Among the notable changes, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC, Kebbi North) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence. He succeeds Senator Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South), who previously chaired the committee and has now been assigned to head the Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry.
Senator Mustafa Musa (APC, Yobe East) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Planning, taking over from Senator Abdullahi, who previously held the post.
Additionally, Senator Osita Ngwu (PDP, Enugu State), the Senate Minority Whip, has been named Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force. Senator Ngwu had served as Deputy Chairman under Senator Akwashiki (SDP, Nasarawa North), who has been indisposed.
The Senate’s reshuffle aims to strengthen oversight and ensure that committees are led by experienced lawmakers capable of driving legislative priorities in their respective sectors.
