Nigerian socialite and reality TV star Sophia Momodu has taken legal action against fellow reality star Caroline Hutchings, popularly known as Caroline Danjuma, over an alleged defamatory Snapchat post that sparked widespread speculation on social media.
The legal dispute follows a recent Snapchat post by Caroline, in which she alleged that a woman she had once defended on national television had been involved with her former partner while they were still in a relationship. Although no name was mentioned in the post, many social media users speculated that she was referring to Sophia Momodu.
According to a Notice of Intended Legal Proceedings issued by Prince (Dr.) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, of Ahonaruogho, Ahonaruogho & Co. (Paradise Law Firm), the post was widely interpreted as being about Sophia, exposing her to cyberbullying, ridicule, emotional distress and damage to her reputation.
The legal notice also revealed that before initiating legal proceedings, Sophia personally contacted Caroline on July 3, 2026, requesting a public clarification if the post was not about her. However, Caroline allegedly neither responded nor issued any clarification, allowing the speculation to continue.
As part of the demands, Sophia is seeking an immediate retraction of the publication, an unreserved public apology, substantial monetary compensation and other reliefs for the alleged reputational harm caused by the viral post.
The development has sparked mixed reactions online, with many questioning the lawsuit on the grounds that Caroline never mentioned Sophia’s name.
