US President Donald Trump sparked reactions on Monday after describing Trinidadian-born rapper Nicki Minaj as “so hot” while introducing her at a White House luncheon.
Minaj was among the guests at the Rose Garden event, where Trump took a moment to commend the award-winning musician for her talent, popularity, and public support.
While introducing the rapper, Trump referred to her as a respected figure and praised her personality before making a remark about her appearance.
“We also have a woman who is respected and quite attractive. She is a wonderful friend of mine. I wouldn’t say conservative; I’d say common sense,” Trump said.
He continued by applauding Minaj’s character and career, describing her as someone admired by many.
“She’s a fantastic person, a woman who is appreciated by everyone, and she possesses genuine talent; we have Nicki Minaj,” he added.
Following the event, Minaj shared photos from the luncheon on her X account, captioning the post: “Whoa!!!! #WhiteHouse Barbie with her all-time favorite President!!!”
The rapper has previously shown support for Trump’s initiatives. In January, she highlighted the president’s immigration “gold card” programme, a fast-track visa and residency initiative.
Her appearance at the White House followed her participation in the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, where she praised the president and described herself as one of his supporters.
Addressing criticism over her political views, Minaj said she remained unfazed by negative reactions and that opposition only strengthened her decision to support Trump.
