…Flags Off One-Million-Man March
The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Benue State, Prof. Terhemba Shija, has declared that the party’s Obi-Kwankwaso Movement will mobilise at least 30 million votes nationwide for the ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
Shija made the declaration on Saturday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, while flagging off a one-million-man march organised by the movement.
The development came days after the NDC unveiled its candidates, with the party claiming a surge in membership and support across the state.
Addressing the crowd at the rally, Shija expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, arguing that no rival would be able to match its support base in 2027.
He recalled that Obi secured about six million votes in the 2023 presidential election, despite contesting for the first time, and said his political profile had since grown.
According to him, the addition of Kwankwaso to the ticket has further strengthened the movement and created what he described as an unbeatable team.
“The Holy Bible tells us that there’s a time and place for everything,” Shija said. “This is Obi’s time; this is Obi’s era, and nothing can stop him!”
The governorship candidate also accused successive political leaders of plundering the country’s resources, saying the time had come to end the alleged looting and recover the nation’s wealth.
He urged participants in the march to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while respecting security personnel deployed to monitor the exercise.
Shija described the security agencies as “our brothers in uniform” and urged the supporters to conduct
themselves responsibly.
He also challenged participants to take note of the state of infrastructure in Makurdi, alleging that much of the development visible in the state capital dated back to the administration of the late first civilian governor of Benue State, Aper Aku.
Leader of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Benue, Dr Sewuese Apeverga, commended Shija for joining the march and described the NDC as a party with the vision to tackle Nigeria’s challenges.
Apeverga expressed confidence that Obi and Kwankwaso would deliver on their promises if elected, while also backing Shija to fulfil his campaign promises as governor of Benue State.
Benue State is currently under the control of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with Governor Hyacinth Alia heading the administration.
