Six Years After Abiola Ajimobi’s Death, Younger Brother Teslim Dies in London

Alhaji Teslim Adeboye Ajimobi, the younger brother of former Oyo State governor Abiola Ajimobi, has died in London, marking yet another painful chapter for the Ajimobi family.

Teslim Ajimobi reportedly passed away on Thursday a date that hauntingly coincides with the sixth anniversary of his elder brother’s death on June 25, 2020. The striking timing has stirred emotions across Oyo State, particularly in Ibadan, where the Ajimobi name remains deeply rooted in political and social history.

Though not as widely known as his late brother, Teslim carved his own path in grassroots politics. He once served as the Caretaker Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, where he was regarded by associates as a committed local administrator with strong ties to the community. Beyond public service, he was also involved in private business ventures, maintaining interests both in Nigeria and abroad.

His passing adds to a string of losses that have shadowed the Ajimobi family in recent years. The death of Abiola Ajimobi in 2020 following complications linked to COVID-19 was a major blow to Oyo politics. In 2025, the family was again thrown into mourning with the loss of his eldest daughter, Bisola Ajimobi Kola-Daisi, in the United Kingdom.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of Teslim Ajimobi’s death has not been officially disclosed, and the family has yet to release a formal statement regarding burial arrangements.

For many in Oyo State, Teslim’s death is more than a personal loss—it is a reminder of a family that has endured repeated grief under the public eye. Coming exactly six years after the passing of his elder brother, the moment feels less like coincidence and more like a solemn echo of history.

As tributes begin to pour in, friends, political associates, and community members remember Teslim Ajimobi as a quiet but dedicated figure one who stood firmly behind a prominent legacy, yet built a modest one of his own.
