A Nigerian lady has gone viral after sharing why she immediately blocked a 40-year-old admirer following what she described as a series of red flags during their first phone conversation.
According to the lady, identified as @Cheriemike2 on X, her aunt had introduced her to the man, believing he would be a suitable partner because he was over 40 and still unmarried.
She explained that after exchanging contacts, the man called her on Friday night to ask for her number. However, the interaction took an unexpected turn the following morning when he called again around 6:02 a.m.
According to her, after exchanging greetings, the man’s first question was, “So when are you coming to see my mother for a sleepover?” He reportedly added that his mother would pack all her dirty clothes for her to wash as a way of determining whether she was “wife material.”
Before she could process that request, he allegedly followed up with another question, asking if she could cook fufu and ogbono soup well, stressing that he disliked frozen food and expected fresh meals to be prepared every day.
Feeling uncomfortable with the conversation, she said she immediately hung up and blocked his number.
She added that her aunt later called to scold her, accusing her of being too selective because of the man’s age.
Responding, the lady maintained that she would rather remain single than wake up to what she described as an interrogation at dawn.
She concluded her post by writing, “Some red flags don’t need time to show.”
The post has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating whether the man’s expectations were reasonable or excessive.
