A Nigerian returnee from South Africa, Chikezie Igwe, has revealed how a friend who refused to return home was killed during recent anti-migrant protests in South Africa.
Igwe told News Central TV that he had urged his friend, who lived in Tembisa, to take advantage of evacuation flights arranged by the Nigerian government. He said, “I have a friend who lives in Tembisa and I told him let’s come back home. Now we have the opportunity, the Nigerian President has provided flights to evacuate us from South Africa.”
According to Igwe, his friend initially agreed to return and confirmed he had registered for the evacuation but he later found out that he lied to him.
