South Korean semiconductor giants Samsung Electronics and SK hynix have agreed to supply advanced memory chips to major United States technology companies, including Nvidia, in deals valued at about $950 billion, a presidential adviser said on Saturday.
The announcement was made during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to San Francisco, where he held meetings with executives from leading technology firms, including OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan.
South Korea’s presidential chief of staff for policy, Kim Yong-beom, said the companies had agreed to “pursue cooperation” in the semiconductor sector as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to rise.

Kim said SK hynix would enter into a five-year cooperation agreement to supply memory chips worth $750 billion to US companies, including Nvidia.
He added that Samsung Electronics had also signed a $200 billion memorandum of understanding with Broadcom covering the supply of advanced memory chips and foundry services for AI chip production over the next five years.
South Korea remains home to two of the world’s largest memory chip manufacturers, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, whose high-performance memory products are considered critical components in the development of AI systems.
