StarTimes Nigeria brought the curtain down on the FIFA World Cup 2026 in grand style on Sunday night, hosting an electrifying World Cup Final Watch Party at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where football fans witnessed Spain lift the FIFA World Cup trophy and one lucky StarTimes subscriber walked away with the 10 million naira grand prize in the company’s nationwide “Watch and Win” promo.
Held at the King Jaja Hall, University of Lagos, the event attracted over a thousand football enthusiasts who gathered to watch the final between defending champions Argentina and Spain in an atmosphere filled with excitement, entertainment and fans engagement.
On the pitch, Spain emerged world champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute after a tense encounter that saw Argentina reduced to ten men following Enzo Fernández’s dismissal. Spain’s victory secured their second FIFA World Cup title, sixteen years after their maiden triumph in South Africa.
While football delivered unforgettable drama, the biggest celebration for many Nigerians came during halftime when StarTimes conducted the live draw for the grand prize of its nationwide “Watch and Win” promo.
The night’s biggest winner was Blessing Ubokudom Obot from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who emerged as the winner of the 10m naira cash prize after subscribing during the promotional period.
The grand draw also produced additional winners, including seven StarTimes H30 Solar Home Systems and fourteen StarTimes S130B Solar + TV bundles, completing a consumer reward campaign worth over 50 million naira.
Speaking after the event, Marketing Director, Oke Umurhohwo, said the campaign reflected StarTimes’ commitment to making premium sports broadcasting more accessible while rewarding customer loyalty.
“The FIFA World Cup is more than just football. It is a shared experience that brings people together across homes, viewing centres and communities. Through our ‘Watch and Win’ promo, we wanted to reward our subscribers for choosing StarTimes while giving them unforgettable football moments from the first match to the final. Seeing one of our customers become a 10M winner is a fitting way to conclude an incredible tournament.
Beyond the football, guests enjoyed an evening of live entertainment, student engagement activities, interactive games and giveaways. The highlight of the pre-match activities was the 50,000 naira Predict and Win competition, organised in partnership with Meridianbet, where one lucky football fan correctly predicted the outcome of the final to walk away with the cash prize. Several attendees also received StarTimes branded merchandise throughout the evening.
The watch party was sponsored by Meridianbet and held in partnership with Sterling Bank, whose support helped create one of the biggest public FIFA World Cup viewing experiences in Lagos.
The event marked the successful conclusion of StarTimes’ FIFA World Cup campaign, which began on June 11 and delivered all 104 matches live to subscribers across Nigeria on ST Sports Life (Channels 253 & 243) and ST World Football (Channels 254 & 245), with streaming also available via the StarTimes ON app.
To make the tournament more accessible, StarTimes offered complete FIFA World Cup coverage on its Basic Bouquet from just 4,000 naira, alongside nationwide promotions, decoder discounts and customer rewards.

The UNILAG watch party served as the finale to six weeks of football excitement, reinforcing StarTimes’ position as the home of world-class football while celebrating loyal subscribers through one of its biggest consumer promotions to date.
