The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to provide the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with modern, state-of-the-art equipment to strengthen national security and enhance professionalism.
Abubakar spoke when he received participants of the 13th Staff Course of the Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto.
During the courtesy visit in his palace, he commended the role of the Nigeria Immigration Service in safeguarding the nation’s borders and addressing emerging security challenges.
The Sultan stressed that adequate equipment and continuous capacity building are essential for effective service delivery.
The monarch also condemned banditry and other forms of criminality, emphasising that Islam does not support violence or the killing of innocent people.
He further decried the use of social media to promote hatred and ethnic profiling, urging Nigerians to avoid linking crime to any ethnic or religious group.
Abubakar criminals should always be regarded simply as criminals.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, ACG Ahmed Dauda Bagari, said the visit was to seek the Sultan’s blessings and benefit from his fatherly advice.
Bagari explained that the 13th Staff Course, like any other course of the college, is designed to equip participants with leadership skills, strategic thinking, and critical decision-making abilities needed to effectively tackle emerging challenges and discharge their responsibilities in the service.
The course has 68 participants drawn from various formations of the Nigeria Immigration Service across the country.
