President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to align themselves with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing this current phase of the nation as a “lifetime opportunity” to defeat poverty while ensuring democracy thrives, news.ng reports.
The President made the call during a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Abuja on Thursday.
The President boasted that it is only the APC that guarantees the dividends of democracy to Nigerians, berating the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) and describing the party’s recently held national convention as a street convention.
He said, “This is an opportunity of lifetime to break the shackles of poverty, ignorance. To put freedom in the hearts of our people. To ensure democracy survives. Not the noise-making, not the rascality of a street convention.”
He emphasised the importance of adherence to the rule of law, urging players in the country’s politics to accept the rulings of the court.
“We cannot submit to disobedience of a lawful order of the court. We must embrace the judiciary, whether it favours us or it doesn’t,” he urged.
In a strong message to Nigerians as the momentum of the 2027 general elections gathers, the President urged politicians to abide by the rules of the game while keeping in mind the unity of the country.
The Nigerian leader noted that, in achieving the nation the citizens truly deserve, it is important to have a common vision hinged on progress and the prosperity of the people.
“We submit to this principle of democracy, separation of power, and understanding of the dynamics of it, and the nationhood that Nigeria is, that we must build one country. There’s no other way to the path that will embrace to national greatness other than build one nation, one common vision for progress, prosperity of our people. That’s what we must do,” he stated.
“I’ve been through this path before, and if I have to come back over and over and over again, I’ll do the same thing. There’s no better place than your own country.”
On his leadership journey, President Tinubu made it known to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors that he is not intimidated by anyone and vowed to remain committed to ensuring the country becomes a better place.
“Me? They want to scare me off? It’s a lie. I’ve been through this path before, and if I have to come back over and over and over again, I’ll do the same thing. There’s no better place than your own country,” he said.
Addressing the economic challenges in the country, the President expressed confidence in some of the reforms his administration has undertaken.
He said, “If something is wrong, fine. Live with it, correct it, move on. The life voyage is not going to be easy. And so many of you that are travelling with me, I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it.”
