Two senior police officers have been killed and three inspectors injured following an attack on the Urratta-Eziukwu Divisional Police Headquarters in Aba, Abia State.
The attack occurred at about 2:26 a.m. on Saturday when unidentified armed hoodlums reportedly stormed the facility with explosives, setting off a fire that damaged part of the building and a divisional patrol van.
The Abia State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka.
The Command said the injured inspectors were receiving medical attention, adding that no firearms or ammunition were carted away during the attack.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Wilfred Afolabi, led tactical teams to the area to assess the situation and restore order.
The police said the operational team combed the surrounding environment, while intensified security operations and monitoring had been launched to track down the attackers.
Afolabi condemned the incident and vowed that those responsible would be apprehended and brought to justice.
He said the Command would deploy all necessary operational and intelligence resources to identify the perpetrators.
The Command also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the entire police force over the loss.
It urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to provide credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down the suspects.
