Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, is dead.
BBC News reports that the President’s husband died on Monday while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a health facility in Zanzibar.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the death in a statement on Monday morning.
According to the statement, the funeral arrangement is currently being made in Kizimkazi, a village on Tanzania’s semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar.
The Vice President also expressed condolences to President Hassan and Ameir’s family, describing the deceased as a lifelong companion to the President.
Kenyan President William Ruto joined those mourning Ameir, saying he received news of his death with “deep sorrow”.
