Taraba orders full enforcement of laws against thuggery, drug abuse

The Taraba State Government has directed security agencies to immediately commence full enforcement of laws prohibiting political thuggery and drug abuse across the state.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jalingo by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa, SAN, following Governor Agbu Kefas’ directive on the prohibition of political thuggery and drug abuse.

Maikasuwa directed the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Taraba Marshall and other security agencies to enforce all relevant laws.

He specifically cited Executive Order No. 7 of 2026, which seeks to tackle political thuggery, stressing that the law must be fully implemented as political activities have commenced in the state.

According to him, enforcement must be carried out without political, religious or ethnic considerations.

“The laws shall have teeth to bark and bite, especially as political activities have commenced,” the Attorney General said.

In a related development, Maikasuwa directed local government chairmen, traditional rulers, ward and village heads, religious leaders, family heads and members of the public to ensure compliance with laws prohibiting open burials in private or residential areas.

He said the directive was in line with Executive Order No. 2 of 2026, which restricts burials outside designated areas unless express permission has been granted by the government.

Maikasuwa said the restriction was necessary to safeguard public health and the safety of residents.

He urged relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure that all burials are conducted only in designated burial grounds, except where government approval has been obtained.

The Attorney General warned that violators of the directives would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
