Fresh tensions are emerging within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following reports of a potential fallout involving key political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speculation has grown that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may consider leaving the party amid disagreements over the presidential ticket, which also involves Atiku Abubakar.
The development comes shortly after the Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld the leadership of David Mark within the party, restoring its executives and effectively setting the stage for primary elections.
Supporters of the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, popularly referred to as the “OK Movement,” have advocated for a joint ticket with a one-term power-sharing arrangement. However, internal disagreements persist, particularly as Atiku is also believed to be interested in securing the party’s presidential nomination.
The situation has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with Nigerians expressing concerns over the potential impact of a divided opposition.
A user, @thatGuyBamally, warned: “That means we all wasted our time? Because divided opposition can never win election in Nigeria.”
Another, @ApeironEnt, noted: “Very possible cos Atiku doesn’t seem like someone that’s gonna take a back seat.”
