Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised some APC governors over their opposition to his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike also took a swipe at Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing him of repeatedly blaming him for political issues in the state.
He made the remarks while responding to the growing disagreement between him and APC governors over political alignments and the choice of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Wike said his main disagreement with the governors was their alleged attempt to influence the candidates that would emerge.
“The governor of Kwara is so unfortunate. Anytime he sees a snake, it’s Wike. Anytime he sees a reptile, it’s Wike. Any day he doesn’t eat, Wike is the problem.
“The crime I have committed against APC governors is that they wanted to give us candidates of their own choice, and I disagreed.
“I have heard them say I am presenting candidates so I will have a greater number of legislators. How does that work?”
Wike’s comments followed a recent position by the APC Governors Forum opposing political arrangements that could weaken the party or affect its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The minister has maintained that his support for President Bola Tinubu does not mean that other political parties cannot field candidates for legislative positions. He previously cited governors such as Anambra’s Chukwuma Soludo, Osun’s Ademola Adeleke and Abia’s Alex Otti as examples of politicians supporting Tinubu while remaining associated with their respective parties.
Wike also rejected the suggestion that his involvement in presenting candidates is aimed at building a larger bloc of legislators under his influence.
The latest exchange adds to the growing political disagreement between Wike and several APC governors over the 2027 elections and the emerging coalition discussions.
