Shankh Mitra Ranked Among America’s Highest-Paid CEOs
Shankh Mitra, the Chief Executive Officer of Welltower, featured among the top-paid CEOs in the S&P 500.
According to the Wall Street Journal report cited by News18, Mitra received a total compensation package of $821 million, placing him second on the list after Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The report noted that Welltower delivered a 50% one-year return, which helped boost Mitra’s position among the highest-paid corporate leaders.
Shankh Mitra’s Journey From Jadavpur University To Welltower CEO
Mitra was born and educated in India. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering from Jadavpur University.
He later moved to the United States and earned an MBA in Applied Value Investing from Columbia Business School.
Before joining Welltower, Mitra worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers and later moved into investment management. He held senior roles at Fidelity Investments, Citadel Investment Group and Millennium Partners, focusing on real estate securities and portfolio management.
How Shankh Mitra Rose Through The Ranks At Welltower
Mitra joined Welltower in 2016 as Senior Vice President of Finance and Investments.
Over the years, he took up several leadership roles, including Head of Investments, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Investment Officer.
In October 2020, he was appointed CEO of Welltower, becoming one of the Indian-origin executives to lead a major US-listed real estate investment trust.
Nikesh Arora Among Top 10 Highest-Paid CEOs In The US
Nikesh Arora, Chief Executive Officer of Palo Alto Networks, was another Indian-origin executive on the list.
As per the Wall Street Journal report, cited by News18, Arora ranked eighth among the highest-paid S&P 500 CEOs with total compensation of $100 million.
Under his leadership, Palo Alto Networks recorded a 7% one-year return compared with its industry benchmark.
Nikesh Arora’s Education And Career Before Palo Alto Networks
Born in India, Arora earned a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
He later moved to the US and completed an M.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University and an M.S. in Finance from Boston College.
Before joining Palo Alto Networks, Arora served as President and Chief Operating Officer of SoftBank Group between 2014 and 2016.
From Google Executive To Technology Leader
Arora spent nearly a decade at Google, where he rose to become Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer, overseeing the company’s global business operations.
Earlier in his career, he worked with Deutsche Telekom, Putnam Investments and Fidelity Investments.
