Over the years, she routinely used it to crack walnuts, crush dried red peppers, pound ingredients and hammer nails around the house.The object remained in daily use for over two decades. Despite countless blows against hard surfaces, nothing happened because the grenade’s safety mechanism was never disturbed.
How did she realise it was actually a live Type 67 grenade
However, it took until June 2024, when people came to destroy Qin’s old house, before the truth came to light.One of the people who was destroying the building observed the metallic item and instantly got the impression that it was military hardware instead of some household device. Contacting the authorities and conducting tests, specialists concluded that the metallic item was an active Chinese Type 67 hand grenade.The Type 67 hand grenade was developed by China at the end of the 1960s and has been used by its armed forces ever since. Designed as a fragmentation grenade, it contains an explosive charge surrounded by a metal casing intended to break into deadly fragments upon detonation after the safety pin and fuse are activated.Bomb disposal specialists safely removed the grenade and later destroyed it in a controlled operation.
Why did the grenade never explode despite years of use
