Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled a statue in honour of late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe, at the Ugwu Nwasike Roundabout in Ogidi, the hometown of the legendary author.
The unveiling was part of efforts to immortalise Achebe, whose novel Things Fall Apart remains one of Africa’s most celebrated literary works. A video from the event has since gone viral, with many Nigerians praising the recognition, while others questioned the timing, location and execution of the project.
Some social media users also criticised the surrounding environment of the monument, while others argued that Achebe deserved the honour regardless of political differences.
