The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs in a major intelligence-led operation in the Surulere area of the state.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed that three suspects — Chinedu David, Ezeagwu Chukwuma, and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi — were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit in connection with the seizure.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended with an unregistered MAN diesel truck loaded with the military uniforms and cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs. Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was allegedly being transported to the South-East.
The Commissioner of Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the military uniforms and suspected drugs, identify the intended recipients, and uncover other individuals linked to the operation.
He noted that while the consignment was not considered an immediate threat to Lagos residents, the recovery raises concerns about the circulation of military-grade uniforms among criminal elements, particularly amid reports of bandits and other criminals disguising themselves as security personnel.
Police authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to dismantle the network behind the illegal movement of the recovered items and bring all those involved to justice.
