The suspects have been transferred to the police headquarters in Jos
Three suspects have been arrested after a woman’s dead body was discovered in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, the council chairman, Felix Gonung, has said.
The arrests come amid growing concerns over two bodies discovered in Pankshin within a month, with vital organs allegedly missing from the victims.
Speaking with journalists in Pankshin on Friday, Mr Gonung said the three suspects were arrested following the discovery of the woman’s body last month.
He also disclosed that security agencies were investigating the discovery of a young man’s body at Monday Market on 6 October.
The circumstances surrounding the two deaths remain unclear, and it has not been established whether the cases are connected.
Mr Gonung said the young man’s death might be linked to cult activities among students or criminal elements operating within the student community. He did not, however, provide evidence establishing such a link.
The chairman vowed to work with security agencies to address the incidents and prevent further loss of lives.
“I swore an oath to protect the lives and property of my people. However, the government’s security plans are confidential and the public will soon feel their results and impact,” he said.
“This administration, in collaboration with security agencies, is doing everything within its power to restore and maintain the long-existing peace in our communities.”
As part of the proposed security response, Mr Gonung said the council planned to introduce a policy requiring landlords and hotel operators to provide information about their tenants and guests.
He said the measure was intended to help identify criminal elements who might use rented accommodation or hotels as cover to perpetrate crimes.
“This will enable us to crack down on criminal syndicates who disguise themselves as students or guests to perpetrate crimes in the community,” he said.
Mr Gonung noted that Pankshin had enjoyed relative peace despite security challenges in other parts of Plateau State, adding that the recent incidents had heightened residents’ concerns.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
