Three passengers are still in captivity after suspected bandits attacked a commercial bus along the Jos-Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, while police rescued 10 others.
The Kano State Police Command said the attackers intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Jos to Kano on Sunday evening around the Folgore Forest axis and abducted 13 of the 20 passengers on board.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Divisional Police Officer in Doguwa mobilised tactical operatives after receiving a distress call, leading to the rescue of nine abducted passengers. Another victim later escaped from captivity.
He said the remaining three victims, comprising one man and two women, are still being held by the abductors.
The rescued passengers were taken to Doguwa General Hospital for medical evaluation and were reported to be in stable condition.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said additional tactical teams had been deployed to the area as security operatives intensify efforts to rescue the remaining captives and arrest the suspects.
Bakori commended residents who provided information that aided the rescue operation and urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
