Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an early morning attack by suspected terrorists in Kemanji community, Kaiama area of Kwara State.
The development was disclosed by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a post shared on his official X account.
According to him, the incident occurred around 3:00 am, with soldiers preventing the attackers from gaining access to the community.
He added that several of the assailants were neutralised, while an attempted kidnapping was also foiled.
However, the governor confirmed that three soldiers lost their lives during the operation.
“My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price,” he said.
He also assured that efforts would continue to strengthen security and support affected families.
Meanwhile, the development has triggered reactions from residents, with some questioning the government’s preventive approach to security.
An X user, Nura, criticised the response, arguing that reacting after an attack reflects a failure of proactive security measures.
Another commenter, Adeyemi Ishola, expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of visible leadership presence, suggesting that more attention should be given to security challenges within the state.
“While you are busy playing Abuja politician and chairman of everything in the FCT, our brothers in Kaiama are being used for target practice. You only remember you’re the Governor of Kwara when it’s time to tweet condolences. Go home and do the work we elected you for,” Ishola knocked the governor.
Similarly, Tunde Adeniji urged the government to move beyond condolences and focus on putting effective measures in place to prevent further attacks.
The reactions highlight growing concerns among residents over the need for stronger and more proactive security strategies in vulnerable communities.
